THIS IS TOWSON ATHLETICS
Total Tiger
... To Educate, Advocate, Mentor and Serve.

The Total Tiger Program takes a 360-degree view of the development of our student athletes. The program gives our Tigers opportunities to engage and interact with the Greater Baltimore area through community service and mentorships. Total Tiger exists to complement and enhance the Towson University Athletics' CHAMPS/Life Skills program through:

  • Individual counseling, mentoring and life coaching to student-athletes
  • Establishing IMPACTFUL, meaningful, consistent, and strategic community outreach and service-learning partners for our coaches, staff, and student-athletes
  • Providing team-oriented and focused "athlete-specific life skills programs" (branding, social media management, media/interview education programming) in line with the five University priorities for the Department of Athletics in the Towson 2016 Strategic Vision.

Community ServiceWomen's Track Community Service at Furley Elementary

During the 2012-13 academic year, Tiger student-athletes, coaches, and administrators completed more than 10,000 hours of community service throughout Towson, Baltimore and the surrounding area. This accomplishment is second to none in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) and places Tiger Athletics near the top nationally for community service. The department logged more than 80 school visits in the 2012-13 academic year.

Women's basketball participates in the 2013 Color Run. Two events our student-athletes participate in on an annual basis are the Pigskin Pass and the CAA "Have a Heart" Blood Drive. The Pigskin Pass is a joint community initiative sponsored by the student-athletes at Towson and the University of Delaware in cooperation with the Special Olympics Organizations and State Police in Maryland and Delaware. The "Have a Heart" Blood Drive was developed in 2002 by the CAA presidents as a fun way to emphasize the critical importance of donating blood. Each institution promotes the event on its own campus and encourages student groups, faculty, staff and alumni to participate and support their school.

Recognizing Achievement

Towson student-athletes are recognized as much for their accomplishments in the classroom, as they are for their accomplishments in competition. From the Athletics Honor Roll, to Towson Foundation Scholarships, to a host of individual and team awards for success in competition, there are plenty of opportunities for our Tigers to stand out among their highly regarded peers.
